開關制
英文有很多意義相近但用法不盡相同的詞語。例如：shut down 和 turn off. 一般開關電器，水喉，電燈都會用turn on/off；而開關門窗會用open/close，因為這是一種具體行動。例如：open/close the window, open/close the door。所以開電視和開冷氣千萬不要說成 open the TV或 open the air conditioner.
Shut down都是關掉的意思但語氣較強烈，例如汽車意外漏油，必須馬上關掉引擎，可以說：The oil is leaking, we should shut down the engine immediately. 此外，shut down 還有倒閉/關閉的意思。The cement factory is shut down by the Government. 水泥廠已被政府關閉。
